Updates on the S-70B's radar

Apparently the contract for the S-70B's radar was announced some time ago but it slipped my notice. So I added a section dedicated to the description of the heli's radar, and restored some of the missing sections which blogspot somehow managed to 'eat' after I copied and pasted it direct from my word .doc.

Portsmouth Naval Base

Went on a 2 week trip to UK early June, And along the way I was at Portsmouth, so of course I had to visit Portsmouth Naval Base. These pics were taken on a sightseeing boat which introduced the RN ships in port. Really cheap at just 5 pounds per person. The rows of ships sure were an impressive sight. These are just some of the pics I took, too many to upload them all.

Type 23s galore. Destined to be in the RN fleet for the forseeable future.

2 Type 42s. The recently decommissioned Exeter was around, and I understand it is the last Falklands War veteran to leave service.

The Type 45 Daring was there in preparation for an Open House sometime in July (Can't remember exact date). Pretty ship.

Interesting pic of the infamous 'ship on the hill'. This pic was taken while on the highway. This mock up of the Type 45 superstructure is used to test the sensor systems of the Type 45. The S1850 long range search radar was rotating at the time.

UAV identity finally unveiled!

A Boeing release finally revealed the identity of the mystery UAV which our dear Straits Times reporters failed to identify. Unfortunately, they have not found a defense correspondent of David Boey's caliber as replacement since he left the ST. In any case, a new UAV section is added to the Formidable frigate article to detail the ScanEagle UAS.

Minor update to Formidable Frigate article

Further information found on possible communications link used by RSN, and thus on the frigate. Check the Combat System section for a minor update.

FLEETEX 2009

RSN has just completed FLEETEX 2009 which was a major exercise involving some RSAF platforms and a good chunk of RSN's assets, including all 6 frigates. They also gave reporters unprecedented access by embedding them on the RSS Steadfast, thus giving us a further glimpse into the capabilities of the frigates. Along with that comes a new revelation that the RSS Steadfast launched a UAV. For more information, read the updated Formidable class frigate article below.

And if you're wondering about the 054A frigate article... I got to tell you that having so little concrete information released on the 054A frigate makes it very hard to do an article on it. It's at 70%R completion, but progress is going slowly.

Update...

I'm working on a writeup of the 054A in a similar fashion to that of the Formidable class frigate. A few things are holding up the eeffort, namely lack of time and the difficulty in finding quality info on the 054A. In the end, most of the writeup will be estimations based on the Russian equivalents which the PLAN is using on their ship. So far, the article is about 70% done, so stay tuned...
